Social by the Number

While it still skews young, TikTok is plowing ahead as one of the fastest-growing social media apps on the market, receiving more downloads than well-known platforms such as Snapchat and Instagram. We take a look at the analytics and compare these three platforms:

  • Out of TikTok’s 600 million monthly active users, 411 million people who use the app are under the age of 30 and 288 million are under the age of 20.

  • While Snapchat doesn’t release monthly active users, they have 199.5 million daily users under the age of 30 and 67 million under the age of 20.

  • Instagram still has the largest number of monthly active users—1 billion to be exact. 650 million of their monthly users are under the age of 30 and 430 million are under the age of 20.

  • The average TikTok user spends six minutes on the app per session compared to the four minutes users spend on Snapchat and Instagram.

New Features

  • Instagram is testing out an ‘invites’ sticker for stories that could take your event promotion to the next level. The new feature will include event details and allow your followers to RSVP right from your story, giving brands the opportunity to share exclusive events with their followers.

  • LinkedIn is bringing its networking features into the physical world with its own ‘Events’ tool. This free feature enables members to create and organize event pages as well as facilitate in-person meet-ups via the professional social network.

  • Businesses can now customize their stories with new templates across Facebook, Instagram and Messenger via Facebook Ads Manager. These new templates include several different layouts with the option to add music and also edit background colors, text and cropping.

  • Instagram is keeping bullies in check with its new ‘Restrict’ option. The new capability lets users “restrict” any chosen individual, making any comments they add invisible to the public. Restricted users will also be unable to see when you are active or if you have viewed their DMs.
